Ponseti Solution

In the 1950’s Professor Ignacio Ponseti developed the Ponseti technique. Over 60 years later the Ponseti method is widely recognized as the most effective way to treat clubfoot, and achieves a full correction in 95% of cases.

The Ponseti Method involves a series of simple, properly applied plaster casts, which are changed weekly over a period of 4-6 weeks. Following casting, a foot abduction brace is worn at night for up to four years to prevent relapse. Most Children need a simple tenotomy before the final cast. This method for clubfoot treatment is over 95% effective when used properly by a trained health care provider, and is considered the “gold standard” treatment for clubfoot.

The following photographs are taken from our Myanmar program. They shows the steps in successfully casting clubfeet up to the fitting the braces. Amazing how the baby smiles too as treatment progresses! Facebook page
